We all are familiar with the fact that a wide range of Windows mobile phones are there in the mobile world. Though all mobile companies try to add something new, something extra, something different from others but yes all are on Windows platform.
People interested in gadgets & mobile world must be aware of the fact that Windows Phone 7 launched last year. But it was without multitasking or cut-and-paste support. The features Microsoft ridiculed Apple for years for not having in its iPhone OS. Microsoft had promised to remedy the situation promptly.
Now question is how promptly? Four months later and we still don’t know, but it is coming, as Microsoft has announced that they are prepping a major update for Windows Phone 7 which will add both multitasking, cut-and-paste and a mobile version of Internet Explorer 9 to the operating system.
How will multitasking work? Similarly to iOS or webOS, it’s essentially quick app-switching. You simply press the back button to flip back to your last userd app, or press and hold to enter a switching screen, which displays screenshots of your open apps to switch through. Re-enter an app, and it resumes instantly.
In other words, unlike what we mean by multitasking on a desktop OS, multitasking in Windows Phone 7 freezes apps in their state upon exit and allows you to switch between them instantly while certain core APIs — like background audio — continue to run.
The new version of IE9 is a new big improvement, given that current Windows Phone 7 handsets ship with the four year old IE7. Another feature coming to WP7 is SkyDrive, which will give users 25GB of online cloud storage that ties both into the desktop and the smartphone.
As for copy-and-paste feature it will be there in the next month as per the sources, while IE9 and Multitasking are set to be introduced “sometime this year”. So at least we are going to see copy-paste, it is officially coming to all WP7 handsets next month.
