Top 5 Games of April

After a hectic March filled with many excellent and diverse games, April will inevitably be a bit of a letdown in terms of new releases. Even so, this month still provides plenty of great titles to look forward to. Here are the top five games coming out in April that you should be anticipating.

5. Nier (Playstation 3 and Xbox 360)
Although not as highly anticipated as Square Enix’s other role-playing game that was released in March (Final Fantasy XIII), Nier does sport a few intriguing features. For one, it is set in a Mature-rated dark fantasy world. Nier also has plenty of depth, with upgradeable weapons and magic, to go along with the real-time action combat. So while it may look a little rough, Nier is worth at least a look.

4. Again (Nintendo DS)
Even though you most likely haven’t heard of this game until now, Again is the latest title from horribly underappreciated (and now bankrupt), Cing. The spiritual successor to the sleeper hit Hotel Dusk: Room 215, this unique crime-solving game adds an extra twist by letting you view the past and present events using the two screens on the Nintendo DS. As with Cing’s previous adventure games, you can expect an engrossing experience with Again.

3. Super Street Fighter IV (Playstation 3 and Xbox 360)
Street Fighter IV became a huge hit when it was released during the first-quarter of last year. Capcom is looking further expand on the already excellent game with Super Street Fighter IV. In addition to re-balancing the top notch gameplay, the upcoming fighting game includes new fighters, moves and modes. Not to mention that the online portion will be heavily improved and comprises of many new features that will make you want to buy Street Fighter IV even if you played the original to death.

2. Monster Hunter Tri (Nintendo Wii)
Already a huge hit in Japan, the latest entry in the addicting online co-operative game makes its way to North America this spring. Although Monster Hunter Tri is already a great game, Capcom is adding several enhancements to the localized version, voice chat support and free online play. With plenty of monsters, weapons and missions, Monster Hunter Tri should keep Nintendo Wii gamers busy for a long time.

1. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction (PC and Xbox 360)
After a rough development (including having to start again from scratch), Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction will finally launch this April. The re-imagining of the popular stealth series brings several new streamlined elements, like the Last Known Position feature, that will make it a more accessible and enjoyable experience than ever before. Furthermore, the competitive and co-operative modes should also give the game plenty of replayability once you are done with the exciting single-player campaign. You won’t find a better game coming out this April than Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction.

Other notable releases for April: Dementium II (Nintendo DS), Dead to Rights: Retribution (Playstation 3 and Xbox 360), Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake (PSP) and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (PC and Playstation 3)
